Venizelos (nee Turkoglou): "Changes in the geographic data of Greece and Turkey"

The convening of the third "High Level Cooperation Council", in the early Greek Presidency of the European Union was decided by Athens and Ankara during the meeting that lasted about one hour in the Turkish capital between the Foreign Ministers of Greece and Turkey, Ev. Venizelos and Ahmet Davutoglu. The interest lies, in the statements of E.Venizelos who spoke of "change in the geographic data" and is the first time that the Greek side refers to a change in geographic data in the Greek-Turkish relations.

The conversation of the two ministers was followed by a meeting of the delegations of the two Ministries and Ministers (07/19/2013). Then a press conference took place, where the Greek journalists for the first time heard a Greek Foreign Minister to admit that "we, re heading to changes in the geographic data".

"The geographic data are changing" he said and talked about a "new bridge" with attention "not only economic, but also a geopolitical bridge between Greece and Turkey", referring to the TAP pipeline .

To question is how the "geographic data" between Greece and Turkey can be changed? Would the borders be abolished? Will there be an acceptance of the revisionist positions of Turkey against Greece?

Is this yet another "prophetic" statement like the one of Mrs Benaki in 2005 who talked about changing borders, limiting the sovereignty and test of democracy in Greece?

TURKEY: We Need Help #occupygezi

An appeal to my international friends. We need your help.

Here is why: International and local media is either ignoring or downplaying the excessive police force used on the peaceful demonstrators opposing the cutting of trees in ‘Taksim Gezi Parki’ in order to build a shopping mall. People sitting there with there books to protest cutting trees are teargassed, shot with plastic bullets and watered down.World needs to know that this is no small incident caused by two idiotic protesters: However, people from all walks of life regardless of religious or political beliefs are in ‘Taksim Gezi Park.’

Here is how you can help:

1- If you are on twitter please use #DirenGezi to draw more media attention to what is happening in ‘Taksim Gezi Park.’
2- You can share this post on your Facebook status to your community and raise awareness to what is escalating here. Maybe it will draw some media attention.
3- You can email this message to your friends and ask them to do the same thing. Maybe some news agency will hear of it… (if you have contacts in media all the better)
4- You can call the Turkish embassy in your country and ask why police is gassing people in Taksim and ask if the country is safe? contact numbers can be found at www.mfa.gov.tr Maybe some government official will be embarrassed.

Jason and the argot: land where Greek's ancient language survives

An isolated community near the Black Sea coast in a remote part of north-eastern Turkey has been found to speak a Greek dialect that is remarkably close to the extinct language of ancient Greece.
As few as 5,000 people speak the dialect but linguists believe that it is the closest, living language to ancient Greek and could provide an unprecedented insight into the language of Socrates and Plato and how it evolved.
The community lives in a cluster of villages near the Turkish city of Trabzon in what was once the ancient region of Pontus, a Greek colony that Jason and the Argonauts are supposed to have visited on their epic journey from Thessaly to recover the Golden Fleece from the land of Colchis (present-day Georgia). Pontus was also supposed to be the kingdom of the mythical Amazons, a fierce tribe of women who cut off their right breasts in order to handle their bows better in battle.
Linguists found that the dialect, Romeyka, a variety of Pontic Greek, has structural similarities to ancient Greek that are not observed in other forms of the language spoken today. Romeyka's vocabulary also has parallels with the ancient language.
Ioanna Sitaridou, a lecturer in romance philology at the University of Cambridge, said: "Romeyka preserves an impressive number of grammatical traits that add an ancient Greek flavour to the dialect's structure, traits that have been completely lost from other modern Greek varieties.
"Use of the infinitive has been lost in all other Greek dialects known today – so speakers of Modern Greek would say 'I wasn't able that I go' instead of 'I wasn't able to go'. But, in Romeyka, not only is the infinitive preserved, but we also find quirky infinitival constructions that have never been observed before – only in the Romance languages are there parallel constructions."
The villagers who speak Romeyka, which has no written form, show other signs of geographic and cultural isolation. They rarely marry outside their own community and they play a folk music on a special instrument, called a kemenje in Turkish and Romeyka or lyra as it is called in Greek, Dr Sitaridou said. "I only know of one man who married outside his own village," she said. "The music is distinctive and cannot be mistaken for anything else. It is clearly unique to the speakers of Romeyka."
One possibility is that Romeyka speakers today are the direct descendants of ancient Greeks who lived along the Black Sea coast millennia ago – perhaps going back to the 6th or 7th centuries BC when the area was first colonised. But it is also possible that they may be the descendants of indigenous people or an immigrant tribe who were encouraged or forced to speak the language of the ancient Greek colonisers.
Romeykas-speakers today are devout Muslims, so they were allowed to stay in Turkey after the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne, when some two million Christians and Muslims were exchanged between Greece and Turkey. Repeated waves of emigration, the dominant influence of the Turkish-speaking majority, and the complete absence of Romeyka from the public arena, have now put it on the list of the world's most endangered languages.
"With as few as 5,000 speakers left in the area, before long, Romeyka could be more of a heritage language than a living vernacular. With its demise would go an unparalleled opportunity to unlock how the Greek language has evolved," said Dr Sitaridou. "Imagine if we could speak to individuals whose grammar is closer to the language of the past. Not only could we map out a new grammar of a contemporary dialect but we could also understand some forms of the language of the past. This is the opportunity that Romeyka presents us with."

The Push to Ignite a Turkish Civil War Through a Syrian Quagmire

by Mahdi Darius Nazemroaya

Turkey itself is a major target for destabilization, upheaval, and finally balkanization through its participation in the US-led siege against Syria. Ankara has burned its bridges in Syria for the sake of its failing neo-Ottoman regional policy. The Turkish government has actively pursued regime change, spied on Syria for NATO and Israel, violated Syrian sovereignty, supported acts of terrorism and lawlessness, and provided logistical support for the insurgency inside Syria.
Any chances of seeing some form of Turkish regional leadership under neo-Ottomanism have faded. Turkey’s southern borders have been transformed into intelligence and logistical hubs for the CIA and the Mossad in the process, complete with an intelligence “nerve centre” in the Turkish city of Adana. Despite Turkey’s denials, reports about Adana are undeniable and Turkish officers have also been apprehended in covert military operations against the Syrian Arab Republic. The Turkish Labour Party has even demanded that the US General Consul in Adana be deported for “masterminding and leading the activities of Syrian terrorists.” Mehmet Ali Ediboglu and Mevlut Dudu, two Turkish MPs, have also testified that foreign fighters have been renting homes on Turkey’s border with Syria and that Turkish ambulances have been helping smuggle weapons for the insurgents inside Syria.
Turkish Regional Isolation
If the Syrian state collapses, neighbouring Turkey will be the biggest loser. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his government are foolishly aligning Turkey for disaster. Aside from Ankara’s historically bad relations with Armenia, Erdogan has managed to singlehandedly alienate Russia and three of Turkey’s most important neighbours. This has damaged the Turkish economy and disrupted the flow of Turkish goods. There have been clamp downs on activists too in connection with Turkey’s policy against Damascus. The freedom of the Turkish media has been affected as well; Erdogan has moved forward with legislation to restrict media freedoms. Prime Minister Erdogan and Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu have even both attacked “reporters who quoted President Assad’s statements in Cumhuriyet, accusing them of treason, because they had questioned the official Turkish account of the Turkish jet shot down by in [sic.] Syria [for spying].”
To Turkey’s eastern flank tensions are building between it and both Iraq and Iran. Baghdad is reviewing its diplomatic ties with the Turkish government, because Ankara is encouraging the Kurdistan Regional Government in Northern Iraq to act independently of Iraq’s federal government. Erdogan’s government has done this partially as a result of Baghdad’s steadfast opposition to regime change in Syria and in part because of Iraq’s strengthening alliance with Iran. Tehran on the other hand has halted the visa-free entry of Turkish citizens into Iran and warned the Turkish government that it is stroking the flames of a regional fire in Syria that will eventually burn Turkey too.
Growing Internal Divisions in Turkey
Despite all the patriotic speeches being made by the Turkish government to rally the Turkish people against Syria, Turkey is a much divided nation over Erdogan’s hostilities with Damascus. A significant portion of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey or Turkish Meclis and Turkey’s opposition parties have all condemned Erdogan for misleading the Turkish people and stirring their country towards disaster. There is also growing resentment amongst the citizens of Turkey about Erdogan’s cooperation with the US, NATO, Israel, and the Arab dictatorships – like Qatar and Saudi Arabia – against the Syrians and others. The majority of Turkish citizens oppose Turkish ties to Israel, the hosting of NATO facilities in Turkey, the missile shield project, and cooperation with the US in the Middle East.
The Republican People’s Party, Turkey’s second largest political party and its main opposition party, has condemned the government in Ankara over Syria. Their leader, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, has openly accused Prime Minister Erdogan of interfering in the internal affairs of Syria.  Kilicdaroglu has been joined by Turkey’s other political parties in the condemnations of Erdogan and his ruling Justice and Development Party. Devlet Bahceli, the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party, has warned the Turkish government not to drag their country into a war with Syria through intervention. “Some Western countries have put pressure on Turkey for an intervention in Syria. Turkey should not fall into this trap,” Bahceli, who leads the third largest Turkish political party, has warned Erdogan according to the Turkish press. The Peace and Democracy Party, which is the fourth largest Turkish political party, has also clarified that it is against war with Syria. The politician Selahattin Demirtas, who is one of the leaders of the Peace and Democracy Party, has warned that any military intervention by Ankara in Syria would drag Turkey into a broader regional war. Hasan Basri Ozbey, the deputy leader of the Turkish Labour Party, has announced that his political party will file a complaint against Turkish President Abdullah Gul with the Turkish Meclis and the Turkish Higher Court to prosecute Gul, because the Labour Party “has clear evidence that [Gul] incited terrorism and war on Syria and signed a secret agreement with the United States, which alone is grounds for trial.” Mustafa Kamalak, the leader of the Felicity Party, has even led a Turkish delegation to visit Bashar Al-Assad to show their support for Syria and opposition to Erdogan’s policies.
The mobilization of the Turkish military on the Syrian border as a show of force is a psychological tactic to scare the Syrian regime. Any large-scale military operations against the Syrians would be very dangerous for Turkey and could fragment the Turkish Armed Forces. Segments of the Turkish military are at odds with the Turkish government and the military itself is divided over Turkish foreign policy. Erdogan does not even trust half of Turkey’s own military leaders and has arrested forty of them for planning to overthrow him.  How can he send such a force to even attack neighbouring Syria or think that he can control it during a broader war?
The Dangers of “Blowback” from Syria
While Turkey is trumpeting that it will not allow Kurdish militias to establish bases in northern Syria, the Turkish government is actually facilitating this itself.  There is a real risk of “blowback” from Syria for Turkey. Like Syria, Turkey is a kaleidoscope of various peoples and faiths. The people of Turkey are held together by the primacy of the Turkish language and a shared citizenship. Turkey’s minorities constitute at the very minimum one-third of the country. A significant proportion of Turkey’s minority communities have ties to Syria, Iraq, or Iran.

What is going on in the eastern Mediterranean?

In 1947 IN ARCTIC Russians scientists discovered an undersea mountain range that reached Greenland and they named it Lomonosov. This Sierra - ridge is geologically part of Siberia. In 1982 THE INTERNATIONAL LAW OF THE SEA that sets issues of undersea borders to 12 nautical miles of the coast, was signed in the UN. THE INTERNATIONAL LAW OF THE SEA was not agreed and signed by two countries the U.S. (FOR ARCTIC) and Turkey (because of the Aegean islands).

According to this LAW of the UN if a country has undersea Mountains which area geological continuity of this country then its borders expand 12 nautical miles from the end of the undersea mountains.

Therefore Russia's borders reach Greenland and the whole of Arctic belongs to Russia.

In North Pole lies the 25% of global oil deposit and this makes Russia the greatest energy power of the world. This is why the US did not sign the International Law of the Sea.

On the other hand, if this law applies in Aegean Turkey loses all of it as it has no sierras and thus no energy fields to exploit. The application of the law -in the Aegean sea- by Greece (Hellas) is for Turkey a cause of war. So if Greece (Hellas) dared to apply it, it would lead to conflict. The only way Greece (Hellas) would not apply the law was to lose its sovereignty (with a Memorandum let' s say). But in order to make it happen, Greece (Hellas) would have to go bankrupt through Euro.

Europeans and Americans through Greece (Hellas) want to create a fait accompli to prevent Russia to implement the law of the sea and lose the Arctic. This is the reason why Putin offered 25 billion dollars to Papandreou (and China did so). He was trying to prevent Greece (Hellas) from getting into the IMF. Putin knew that if Greece lost the Aegean, Russia would lose the Arctic. This is why Greece went bankrupt.

But a small country like Cyprus, in its quest for survival, spoiled their plans. Concluded a bilateral agreement with Israel based on the International Law of the Sea. This was a great opportunity for Russia to implement the Law of the Sea. This is why it sent its fleet to the eastern Mediterranean Sea. At the same time Israel -like the US- is trapped to the international law. Israel (and the American allies) directly and indirectly recognize the Law which gives the Arctic to Russia! Turkey now feels isolated and ..."barks" alone!

Americans and Europeans dug the pit and fell into. Now Russia, in order to strengthen its position, was given permission to drill -through GASPROM- in an area that the Turks consider their property! If such thing happens (which is happening) then END OF GAME for Turkey and ...US! This is why the Europeans and the IMF are blackmailing Greece (Hellas) every time that they will not give the next dose of the loan unless Greece (Hellas) surrenders part of its sovereignty. Their latest achievement is the abolition of the Ministry of the Aegean!

Two things still to help to draw conclusions:

1.In 2010 the Turkish Ministry of Defence asked some academics if oil (in the Aegean) is as much as to justify the war with Greece. The answer was YES.

2. On July 25th 2011 The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a formal notice warning Turkey to leave Cyprus alone or else...

All this information is availiable on the net.

Some questions after what you' ve read in this article:

Q1: Will the Turks attack in Cyprus or Greece with the tolerance of Americans and probably after stimulation of the Israeli?

Q2: If Turkey does so would' t this be a precedent so the law will not apply and would' t Israel lose its ridge?

Q3: If Greece (Hellas) loses its sovereignty due to "bankruptcy" and a result of this will be the non implement of the international law is Russia going to lose the Arctic?

Q4: Is Russia going to attack Turkey because the Turks are ruining the russian plans for Arctic?

Q5: What Greece (Hellas) should do?

Bundle of money from the EU to Turkey to send us illegal immigrants!

01 December 2011 00:01At a time when Turkey conducts waves of illegal immigrants to Greece, around 8000 per month, the EU in Ankara donated nearly half a billion € for the "management" and "treatment" of illegal immigration. This amount concerns only the period 2011-2013 and at least 2010 the EU provided assistance to Turkey for the construction of two centers removal-obviously on the side of Greece, illegal immigrants (17.4 million €) and six reception centers for asylum seekers (56.2 million €). They have also granted substantial funds (32 million) to support the management capacity of the border from Turkey. In other words, Turkey with armed forces that reach the 700,000 men, not including this paramilitary units-has the ability to manage its borders especially on the side of Greece.
These figures came after a published question MEP LD Papanikolaou to Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy, Mrs S. Füle.
The MEP SW stated: "The EU the 4 years from 2010 to 2013 will have contributed a total of more than half a billion to Turkey's efforts to tackle illegal immigration "
"For now the details of FRONTEX on illegal flows to Greece from Turkey and 320 daily illegal crossings convince for the opposite. Neither time nor money is there. Turkey should assume direct responsibility in controlling illegal immigration and agree with the EU on a comprehensive program returns ".
Except that it never assumed its responsibilities and never going to, not because they avoid them, but because the promotion of illegal immigrants in Greece is a draft national strategy. Any other treatment of the matter is simply unrealistic. And the helpless Greek state has simply succumbed to the fate of this subject, taking the credit of the known left-wing formations. As to fence PRO.PO minister who stresses for months it's going to happen, we just remind him that it will not happen.
